Protect Your Net

Branding. Guerilla Marketing, illustration, critical thinking

‘Protect Your Net’ is a Social Impact Design that works with an existing initiative known as ‘Stomping Out Malaria; run by the Peace Corp, and uses guerilla marketing tactics to spread awareness. In an effort to create change, raise awareness, and inform, I created a special Futbol match day hosted at Nigeria’s, Abuja National Stadium to help raise awareness and promote bed net safety from deadly Malaria. The slogan and hashtag ‘Protect Your Net’ creates a direct link between the beloved game of soccer and the act of protecting and maintaining ones bed netting to keep deadly mosquitos off of you while you sleep.

I replaced the standard soccer goal net with mosquito netting. illustrated a simple and elegant mosquito graphic that can be seen on the field and the game ball. The graphic on the ball creates great symbolism whenever a goal is scored during the game. As the crowd celebrates by cheering for the goal, they will also inadverdently be celebrating a literal net stopping a mosquito.

A superb way to address this major issue in a localized manner. Engaging the audience during the event and onward!

Tickets/ Game day take away

The Peacecorp uses specialists that travel to specifically
check mosquito bed netting to determine if a net is still usable or if it must be replaced.

Specially designed tickets were made for this special match day. These tickets would not be torn like a standard ticket upon entry into the event. These tickets would be hole punched to a specific size. This hole punch, that signifies your attendance at the event, also provides a take-away that each person may bring home to their own net in order to check their own nets for holes without a specialist from the Peace Corp.

By holding the hole in the ticket up to a corresponding hole in your net, you can see that if the hole in your net is larger than the hole in the ticket then the net must be replaced. If the hole in the mosquito net is smaller than the hole on ticket, the net may be repaired for continued use.

Once the ticket has been punched, it is immediately an effective device to check ones own mosquito net for damage.
