Exquisite Creatures

Exhibition Design. Exhibits Installation. Wayfinding

Exquisite Creatures is a travelling exhibit that the NCMNS brought in for a 6 month period. Working to design, create, produce, and install systems of labels, signage, wayfinding, and graphics. This allowed me to work with many different professionals from a variety of disciplines to help bring this exhibition to life.

Exquisite Creatures is a dialogue with art, nature and science. What is it about the natural world that calls to us? Is it the color of the macaw’s feathers? The vibrant sheen of the beetle’s carapace? Is it the overwhelming diversity of life, or the repetitive patterns that nature has conjured?

All vertebrates used in this artwork are reclaimed, meaning they passed of natural or incidental causes, most often in captivity. None were killed for this purpose.

Teaser wall

Designing and producing this large custom illustration to create this teaser wall mural for the exhibition located on the floor above it.

Entrance

Designing large hanging graphics to signify and welcome the visitors to the Special Exhibit.

Wall Wayfinding

Fish wall

I was tasked with creating a quick and easy way to Identify each fish on the,”fish wall” without having individual labels located directly next to each specimen. Working through those challenges along with space restrictions, I designed a visual system using size and shape to connect each fish to its corresponding label.

Exhibit

Using organisms and elements as his medium, artist Christopher Marley explores our need to connect with the natural world on a personal level, inspiring biophilia — a love of life. Immerse yourself in a world where order, diversity, symmetry, and balance come to life in vibrant, awe-inspiring displays.
